Childersburg was originally home to members of the Coosa Indian Nation. Known explorer, Hernando De Soto, came to the area in 1540 and rested with his army before heading out to continue his journey across the southeast. Today, the city only has a small population of around 5,000 people. Two historical attractions serve as popular spots. They are the Desoto Caverns, which hold the first cave on record in the United States, and the Kymulga Grist Mill and Covered Bridge Park.
