In 1816, the Reed Family of North Carolina migrated to the area now known as Center Point. Other settlers began to head for this area, but residents soon became troubled by a lack of water. Cullen Scott discovered enough water to supply Center Point in 1957, and a large tank was built afterward. Center Point became the largest unincorporated area in the U.S. between 1960 and 1990, with a population of 64,000. On March 12, 2002, the city voted in favor of becoming a city with an 84 percent majority. The official incorporation date for Center Point was March 28, 2002.
